UAE Authorities Confirm: Alert malfunction

Emergency Alert Was Caused by a Technical Malfunction

No Security Threat to Residents – Officials Clarify False Warning

Residents across the United Arab Emirates experienced an unusual situation when an emergency notification appeared simultaneously on mobile phones, instructing people to immediately seek shelter and stay away from windows due to a potential missile threat.

Within minutes, however, additional notifications followed, first indicating that the situation was safe and shortly afterwards asking residents to disregard the previous warning entirely.

The incident understandably caused confusion among many residents and visitors.

The UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has now officially confirmed that the alert was not triggered by an actual security incident, but by an unexpected technical malfunction within the country’s National Early Warning System.

According to the authority, specialised technical teams immediately identified the problem, implemented corrective measures and restored the system. NCEMA also issued a public apology for the unintended error and thanked residents for their cooperation and calm response.

What Happened?

Residents received three separate notifications:

  • An initial emergency alert advising people to seek immediate shelter.
  • A follow-up message confirming that the situation was safe.
  • A final notification asking everyone to disregard the previous warning.

The sequence reflected a technical system failure rather than a developing emergency.

Why This Matters

Although the alert was sent by mistake, the incident also demonstrated that the UAE’s nationwide emergency notification infrastructure is capable of reaching millions of people within seconds.
Authorities emphasised that, in any genuine emergency, residents should continue to follow official instructions and rely exclusively on verified government communication channels rather than rumours circulating on social media.

The Takeaway

For residents and visitors, the most important message is clear:

UAE authorities continue to advise the public to rely only on official government updates for emergency information

There was no actual missile threat associated with yesterday’s notification.

The alert resulted solely from a technical malfunction.

The issue has been resolved.
